Thank you to Radius Camp Nashville for volunteering at GraceWorks 3 days last week! Radius Camps organizes summer mission camps for junior high and high school students around the country, and a small group sorted and organized school supplies for our Big Backpack Giveaway scheduled for July 27 at Liberty Elementary in Franklin. Hundreds of students will receive backpacks stuffed with school supplies that were sorted by the Radius Camp. We are grateful for your partnership.

Many of our clients live a roller coaster life of highs and lows. As soon as something good happens, it seems there is misfortune waiting around the corner.
One way we help every client is by offering to pray with them before they leave the office. Prayer is certainly not a condition of receiving help, and a few clients will refuse it, but most are grateful for the hope and comfort the prayers provide.
Sometimes we get to hear the praise results of our prayers.
We were able to rejoice w

For many of us, summertime means longer days, kids home from school, days at the pool and lazy evenings around the grill.
Unfortunately for some families, summertime means extra expenses for child care, lost pay if child care doesn’t work out, and extra food costs because the kids are home and not being fed at school.
Many of our clients cannot afford to go to the pool or go on vacation. They are struggling just to pay the monthly rent and utility bills.
With milder weather so far, we

The 2010 flood in Nashville seems so long ago, yet some families are still feeling the effects. Many are still making repairs on their homes and struggling to get back on their feet after losing so much in the flood waters.
One family recently came to GraceWorks for help after they lost their business at Opry Mills due to the flood. For several years, they were assisted by family and friends, but still have not been able to recover completely.
The family suffered yet another setback when h

What would you do if you only had months to live?
Would you repay debts?
That’s exactly what a former client did today. We helped him exactly once, nearly a year ago, with his rent.
We paid more than we normally do out of a fund reserved for special situations. But he didn’t come back in to request food or medicine or help with utilities in all that time. It was truly one-time help.
That one visit was his last – until today.
We were surprised to see this gentleman walk in th

Remember the days of road trips? We had a visit last week by Nancy, who is on a 56-week “Give Back to America” road trip and GraceWorks was a stop on her trek.
She wrote the following note:
Hi –
My name is Nancy, and last August on my 56th birthday (and I was born in 1956), I left on a 56-week “Give Back to America” road trip to all 56 states and US territories – spending one week in each state. Along the way, I make a $56 donation every day to a goodRead More....

When you are in a comfortable financial situation, it’s easy to budget and plan and save for anticipated expenses.
When you are in crisis mode, living paycheck to paycheck or on a fixed income, you worry about the bill that just came in the mail today or that you got the cutoff notice about, and simply cannot look at what other expenses might be ahead of you.
Many of our clients live in the second world, right on the edge.
One such client came to see us in February because his propane

We are praying for the families affected by the tornado outbreak in Oklahoma. May they feel the comfort of God's loving arms around them through the grieving and rebuilding process, and experience the peace of Christ.

At GraceWorks, we sometimes provide a little more assistance than just giving food or paying a utility bill.
A young girl originally came in earlier this year. “I’m looking for a better job,” she told us as she asked for help with food and clothing. She needed nicer clothes to be able to find that better job. She was working at a restaurant, but it wasn’t always busy, so tips weren’t what they could be.
A couple of months later, she returned requesting food again. This time she t

Some of our clients face severe health and mobility issues, but because of the financial situations they are in, they are unable to get the help they need to simplify day to day living.
We saw a client last week who has been a long-time client due primarily to an auto accident years ago that has created problems and expenses ever since. She is unable to work because of her health issues, and the disability she receives is not sufficient for her continuing needs and medical bills.
She came
