“Things are going to change for me!”

Saturday, July 30th, 2011
Sometimes prayer can make all the difference in someone's outlook on life. We recently saw a client who had been laid off from her job of 2 years, and also recently lost her benefits. "Hopeless" was how she described feeling when she first arrived at GraceWorks. But one of our volunteer GraceWorkers met with her and talked about ways we could help. She was eligible for food assistance, so she received a grocery cart of food. The GraceWorker prayed with her, and when she left, said said Read More....

“I almost didn’t come here today.”

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011
One of the best things about working at GraceWorks is seeing God work in such amazing ways. We have seen some unusual situations the past week or so, where God's hand has been so visible in the interactions, in who was here, and in what was said. Praise the Lord! Last week, a client came in who has 5 children and lost her husband about 10 years ago. She met with two of our volunteer GraceWorkers, one of whom is relatively new to the process and was training with a seasoned GraceWorker. A sRead More....

Pride and dignity

Saturday, March 5th, 2011
Graceworks helps families in crisis, and it is so encouraging when we can see that the help we provide is going to be more than just a temporary fix. We can boost these individuals up by offering enough help to get to the next step and enable them to keep their pride and dignity. We saw a young woman this week who had recently been released from prison for non-payment of child support. But instead of being bitter or frustrated, she had a wonderful attitude. She didn't ask too much of us. HRead More....

“Help someone who needs it more than I do”

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011
He had worked the night shift at a local gas and convenience store, so his eyes looked very tired. His soft voice rang loud with dejection. Plagued by health problems, he had recently been diagnosed with high cholesterol after all sorts of tests. His portion of the doctor visits had set him and his family back financially. A Graceworks volunteer offered assistance with rent and utilities, but more importantly, offered emotional and spiritual comfort. He was late paying his bills because heRead More....

Living on the edge

Saturday, February 12th, 2011
At Graceworks, we seek to help people in tough situations. Many times, we step in when a client is about to have their power cut off or to be evicted because they haven't been able to pay their bills. Sometimes, we just need to support a family through a rough patch. Like at Christmas. We had one particular client come to our office in December. She was married, and they had 8 children under the age of 16. They were struggling to get by, but thankfully her husband was working, and he wRead More....

Everyone here smiles a lot

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011
I was putting something at the receptionist's desk at Graceworks today, when I looked up and saw someone in the waiting area. I smiled at him and turned to go back to my office. That's when I heard him say something. So I stepped out to ask whaRead More....
