On Sunday, August 29, Graceworks received nearly 27,000 pounds of food donated by the members of Brentwood Baptist Church (BBC), one of our church partners.
Each year, the drive is announced during BBC’s Sunday morning worship services along with a list of needed items, and members are encouraged to go shop after church, and bring the donations back to the church that afternoon. Two large trucks were waiting at the church campus to be filled and delivered to Graceworks.
Donations were taken at the church until 6 pm, and there was one last car that came racing through the parking lot right at 6. Apparently she had been pulled over by the police on her way to the church. She told him that she had shopped for Graceworks and had to be at the church by 6 pm, so he checked out her groceries and the list of needed items, and let her go. She made it just in time to get her donation on the truck! What determination, right?
At Graceworks, we had volunteers ready to unload the trucks and sort the donations. Amazingly, almost all the donations were sorted and processed by Monday (yes, the next day). We have some amazing, hard-working volunteers!
We received some badly needed items that we were out of — like jelly and laundry detergent, and also some items for a new program we are launching in September. Be sure to look for more information on that program soon.
Thank you so much to everyone who contributed and volunteered their Sunday afternoon (and evening). Graceworks is so grateful because this helps us to continue providing much needed food to families in our county.
