The Big Payback to Help Provide Backpacks for Area Children

The Big Payback is a 24-hour online giving event hosted by The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee to increase philanthropy. The goal is simple – inspire Middle Tennesseans to come together, show their pride in their community, and contribute to the life-changing work of local nonprofit organizations.

Last year, more than 14,435 donors came together in a big way to raise $2.65 million to “pay back” community nonprofits.

GraceWorks Ministries participated in the Big Payback and earmarked money to purchase backpacks to be given away at the Big Backpack event. These backpacks were filled with school supplies and distributed to more than 2,000 students in need across Williamson County. Because one in five children may not have access to basic school supplies because of their family’s economic circumstances, the goal of this program is to give all students the tools they need to make the best start possible for the upcoming school year.

We’re excited to report that GraceWorks raised $6,120 during the 24 hour day of giving in 2015. This year, we’re hoping to raise $10,000. For each $5 donated, one backpack can be purchased.

This year’s event begins at 12:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 3 and ends at midnight. For 24-hours, people can give to GraceWorks through a donation button on this page or our Facebook and Twitter pages. Or, donors can visit the GraceWorks Thrift Store and participate in our Give $5, Get $5 program. For each $5 given at the store from April 27-May 3, the donor will receive a $5 gift card to be used at a later date in the store.
